SCREENTOCARE BY MAMACARE360
Doula Guide
Version 1.0. Effective October 5, 2026.
Thank you for using ScreenToCare with your clients. You're often the person closest to a mom in the weeks between her appointments. This guide explains how ScreenToCare fits into your work, and what to do if a client shares a hard result with you.
In a crisis: if a client says she's thinking about harming herself or her baby, help her call or text 988. If she's in immediate danger, call 911, and if you're with her, stay with her until help arrives. For 24/7 support from trained counselors, she can also call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262).
You don't screen or diagnose
Your client screens herself, on her own phone, with validated questionnaires. Her phone scores it and shows her next steps and resources. You never administer, score or interpret anything. Your role stays what it's always been: supporting her and helping her connect to care.
How it works for your clients
Share your ScreenToCare QR code with your client. She scans it, answers a few short questions in about a minute, and sees her results and suggested next steps. Her name and answers stay on her phone. If she chooses, she can send her results to you, and to her OB, midwife or pediatrician, by email from her own account.
If a client shares a high-risk result with you
Thank her and listen. Sharing this takes courage. You don't need to have answers.
Encourage her to contact her OB, midwife or pediatrician, today if her results suggest she needs support soon. Offer to help her make the call or send her results.
Point her to support between visits, such as PSI Georgia peer support groups or a perinatal mental health counselor from the PSI directory. The PSI HelpLine at 1-800-944-4773 offers support and connection to resources; it isn't a crisis line.
If she's in crisis, follow the steps in the box at the top of this guide.
Words that help
"Thank you for telling me. You're not alone in this."
"What you're feeling is common, and it can get better with care."
"Would you like help reaching your OB today?"
"Can we call together right now?"
What to avoid
Don't interpret her score or tell her what it means medically. Don't promise she'll be fine, or that it's just the baby blues. Don't keep a crisis to yourself; helping her reach care is part of supporting her.
Keeping her results private
Most doulas aren't covered by HIPAA, but your client is trusting you. Keep any results she sends you private, don't share them without her permission except to get her help in a crisis, and keep them only as long as you need them to support her.
